NikkieTutorials- Pride Month

Pride Month: A People Series Nikkie Tutorials’ Successful Brand

In celebration of Pride Month, we’re highlighting individuals who inspire us through their authenticity and advocacy for inclusivity and self-expression. Today, we turn our spotlight towards one of the most influential beauty vloggers in the world—Nikkie de Jager, known online as NikkieTutorials

From becoming a prominent figure in the YouTube community to launching her makeup line, let’s explore her inspiring journey to commemorate Pride Month while embracing her identity along the way.

The Beginnings of NikkieTutorials

Born on March 2nd, 1994, in the Netherlands, Nikkie started experimenting with makeup when she was only a teenager. She discovered that playing around with colors and textures helped her express herself creatively during challenging times.

At age 14, Nikkie began filming makeup tutorials and sharing them on YouTube under the name ‘NikkieTutorials.’ Little did she know back then that these humble beginnings would lead to millions of followers across various platforms.

Despite achieving digital stardom, Nikkie faced several challenges throughout her career. One such hurdle occurred in 2017 when a Czech Republic-based cosmetics brand used images from her popular “Power of Makeup” tutorial to promote their products without seeking prior approval.

Displaying resilience and integrity, Nikkie addressed the situation head-on in another video, emphasizing the importance of respecting artists’ rights and boundaries.

A Turning Point: NikkieTutorials Coming Out As Transgender

On January 13th, 2020, Nikkie took a significant step forward in her life story by publicly coming out as transgender via a heartfelt video titled “I’m Coming Out.” The revelation came after being blackmailed by someone threatening to expose her truth without her consent. Instead of letting fear control her narrative, Nikkie chose empowerment and honesty, stating:

“When I was younger, I was born in the wrong body, which means that I am transgender… Filming this video today is scary but liberating; I am free, and I am me… I need you to understand that nothing changes about me. I’m still Nikkie. And I am proud.”
